children's book themed baby shower

I feel like it's been a while since I planned a baby shower!
My sweet friend Kari is due with her first baby in a few weeks and Jennie and I had the honor & joy of throwing her a baby shower. We asked our friend Linda if we could have the party at her house because...well the pictures speak for themselves....
These are all iPhone photos and are all random sizes, ha!
One of these days I'll splurge for a "real" camera.
We wanted to have each food to match a children's book.
The dinglehoppers made me laugh out loud when I thought of it.
Pizza Port anyone?!
Mad Hatters tea party sandwiches.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
Table settings are always my FAVORITE.
I made a simple table runner from old books that I purchased at the thrift store
and were falling apart (so I didn't feel too bad cutting them apart). ok... I felt I little bad.
I texted Jennie and told her I was a book murderer, but it's so cute!!!!
For the centerpieces Linda made flower arrangements from her garden and
her wonderful daughter Debbie's garden. Then I just placed more books on the tables.
At each setting there was a handmade bookmark from Jennie,
a chocolate chip cookie (thank you Martha Stewart for the recipe) with a straw and a
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie tag attached.
Also, there was a card with a letter on it (found via Design Sponge) that each lady wrote
a piece of wisdom or encouragement to Kari on.
We will turn it into a book soon.
Pretty presents.
Desserts.
My friend Chelsea made a yummy apple crustada and
Jessy of Arrowleaf Baking made chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting.

Sheesh, I love this girl.
Kari has been working with me for almost 3 years and I am so incredibly thankful for her!
Now that she's going to be a stay at home mommy, she's leaving me (insert crying face).
She's going to be a wonderful mom, I just know it.

I love you Kari and can't wait to meet your precious daughter!!!

sweet as pie // baby shower

When my friend Jennie was pregnant with her 4th baby girl I knew she didn't "need"
a lot of things for this sweet new addition.
However, our friends LOVE a reason to get together and shower our friends with love (and presents)
So, we decide a mellow night with a few close friends and family members
would be perfect to celebrate this new baby.

Jennie LOVES pie, so a "Sweet as Pie" theme was perfect.
I kept things VERY simple (which for me can sometimes be harder than going crazy!).
All the girls pitched in and brought food. We had a yummy salad for dinner and LOTS of pie for dessert.
The invitations were made from card-stock that I cut and folded. My friend Alaina sewed the fabric to the front and then I stamped "sweet as pie". Inside I glued a recipe card and Elisha hand wrote the party information.
It was a great group project!
The only decorations we had was an oval embroidery hoop with teal fabric and a bunting that said ...
"sweet as pie".
Many pies were made.
A lot of pie was eaten.
Now you know why we had salad for dinner. HA!
I made 2 pies, but didn't have nice pie dishes,
so I simply covered the aluminum dishes I purchased from the Dollar Tree with fabric.
Heart hand-held pies.
As a little favor I made pie crust crackers. I got the recipe from Pillsbury and it only requires pie crust and sugar. I had teal and orange sugar, so they matched perfect! Jennie named their little girl Clover, so just for fun I made heart and clover shaped crackers because we love Clover. Sigh.
We chatted, laughed, ate, and prayed, and as always enjoyed the amazing friendships we have.

little brave man // baby shower

I am thrilled to share MY post for the "Little Brave Man" baby shower for my friend Kelli Trontel
It was an honor to have the shower featured on ON TO BABY and I've posted lots of DIY's,
but I'm excited to share the whole party here now (lots of pics, you've been warned)!
Jennie and I were trying to go with a semi-modern, arrows, teepees, and feathers theme.
Ashley of Thorn + Sparrow was totally on board and made the cute invites. The party was at Kelli's in-laws and I LOVE their home!Ashley painted cute arrows on reclaimed barn-wood pointing guests in the right direction to the house.
The guests had simple name tags made with card-stock and washi tape.
The house went so well with the theme of the party!
It was a lovely time to honor Kelli, celebrate this new life, eat food, chat with friends, and just hang out.

Simple white plates, grey napkins, and painted forks
Jennie, my amazing party planner partner made these Caprese Canoes... hehe.
We used left over invites and made food picks for the sandwiches.
I also made a color coordinating serving spoon.
The Teepee Trailmix was one of my favorite little details.
We simply mixed trail mix, mint green colored Sixlets, and Bugles. YUM!
Arrows in cupcakes.
Cheesecake bites.
Drink station.
Stamped cups (DIY coming soon).
Mum's Flowers provided all flowers for the day and they were AMAZING!
I'm obsessed with the white "tree" vases.
I made table runners of triangles to match the invites by simply sewing card-stock in a row.
We asked the guests to write words of wisdom and encouragement to the parents-to-be on feathers and
then hang them on branches.
In lieu of games (yay!) we decided to make a simple craft for Kelli to use in the babies room.
Each table was provided a tray with wooden dowels, sharpies, washi tape, paint, feathers,
and shapes to make... ARROWS!!!
Finished project coming soon below.
Gifts were placed by the teepee.
Everyone received a sweet print from Thorn + Sparrow as a party favor.
Ashley, Jennie, Kelli, and I.
It was a lovely afternoon for our wonderful Kelli!
Can't wait to meet the little brave man!!!
